Samantha Miller and her fiancé, Aric Hutchinson, spent the night celebrating their wedding. When the newlyweds left the reception, a speeding car struck the golf cart they were riding in. Police say Jamie Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone. Bride Samantha Miller was killed. Jamie Lee Komoroski told officers at the scene that she was heading home when something hit her. However, her home was in the opposite direction. Komoroski admitted to drinking that night but refused to take a breathalyzer test. Komoroski, 25, was charged with three counts of DUI with great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide. As Judge Deadra Jefferson prepared to begin jury selection for the trial, Jamie Lee Komoroski asked to change her plea from not guilty to guilty. She did not negotiate a plea deal, meaning the judge was not obligated to show leniency for sparing Miller’s family a trial. Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced Komoroski to 25 years for reckless homicide, 15 years for two counts of DUI with great bodily injury, and 10 years for felony DUI. The sentences run concurrently, meaning Komoroski will serve 25 years in prison. She is now requesting her sentence be reduced. The death penalty criminal trial was approaching for the man accused of killing four Idaho college students in the middle of the night, Ethan Chapin (20), Kaylee Goncalves (21), Xana Kernodle (20), and Madison Mogen (21), when the state offered Bryan Kohberger a plea deal in exchange for the death penalty. Convicted socialite Rebecca Grossman demands a venue change in a wrongful death suit trial filed against her. The parents of two young boys killed when a drunk Grossman plowed into them is civilly suing Grossman and her former MLB star lover Scott Erickson for wrongful death. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Huey Cotton threw out a motion to fast-track. The judge’s decision means that trial won't start until the original December 1 date. Just after 7 pm, on a September evening, Jacob and Mark Iskander, their siblings, and parents go for an evening stroll to a nearby lake. The 6 member family is crossing in a crosswalk at a three-way intersection when mother Nancy hears a speeding car barreling their way. The mom says her husband and daughter were father away from the street. She tries to signal to the two SUVs to slow down. She tries to pull the children back, only managing to grab 1 of them and dive out of the way. Jacob and Mark are hit. Mark Iskander dies at the scene. Jacob dies later at the hospital. According to police, Mark was thrown 254 feet. Nancy Iskander tells police that two SUVs were "zig-zagging with each other as if they were playing or racing.” She says the drivers didn’t stop, at the intersection, not even when the 11-year-old was on the hood of the car. Deputies reportedly catch up with a white Mercedes with significant front-end damage a third of a mile from the scene. Behind the wheel is Rebecca Grossman. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's department says they believe that vehicle was traveling over 80 miles an hour. Grossman’s breathalyzer test after the crash showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.076% according to local news reports. The legal limit in California is 0.08%. A blood sample taken three hours after the crash registered at the 0.08% mark. Rebecca Grossman was charged and convicted of two felony counts each of second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and one felony count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death. Grossman was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. A 7-year-old girl is found locked in a closet, now the search is on for her 9-year-old sister, Ava Marie Gonzales. Austin police respond to a home in Del Valle after receiving a 911 call about a 7-year-old girl is discovered starved and locked inside a bedroom closet. Six other children are also found in the home, but police say it appears they are physically healthy. According to reports, the child was soiled and barricaded in a closet with heavy boxes blocking the door. An arrest affidavit reveals Virginia Marie Gonzales is accused of locking the 7-year-old girl in a closet for “weeks at a time.” The affidavit further states the girl’s grandmother told police that the child had trouble controlling her bladder and often ate things she shouldn’t. This allegedly led to her siblings being instructed to keep her locked in the closet. The 7-year-old was hospitalized and is now recovering. During the investigation, detectives learn about another child, Ava, who has been missing for years. Virginia Marie Gonzales, Ava ‘s mother, was arrested on a charge of serious injury to a child in connection with the 7-year-old’s case. According to police, the missing now 9-year-old child was last seen when she was just 2 years old and in the custody of her mother, Virginia Marie Gonzales. In court Gonzales says she is willing to do whatever necessary to regain custody of her children.
